There are many memorable spots in British Columbia’s Wine Country, including bigger centres like Kelowna and Penticton. Only one gets to carry the prestigious title of ‘Canada’s Wine Capital’, though. Claiming that crown is Oliver, the town of 4,600 that sits near the southern tip of the Okanagan Valley in Canada’s only desert area.
With tourists flocking to the area for wine, golf, lake activities, and sight-seeing, Mundi Hotel Enterprises Inc., led by President Ron Mundi, saw the potential for the first branded, full-service hotel in Oliver. They purchased land along the river from the Town of Oliver to make their vision a reality, selected the Vancouver-based Coast Hotels brand for the property, and chose NRB Modular Solutions to design, manufacture and install the hotel on a quick-to-market timeline using our modular construction technique.
Design of the required modules for the 83-room hotel was initiated in October 2017 and the manufacturing process began in January 2018. On July 15, 2018, the hotel opened to its first public reservations. The nine-month timeline from the beginning of design to the hotel opening illustrates a significant reason for the increased interest in modular construction in North America. A staple of construction in Europe for decades, modular construction is just now coming into its own in Canada, led across the country by NRB Modular Solutions.
For hospitality developers, modular construction is an ideal fit, primarily for the opportunity it presents to begin generating a quicker return on the investment required. Coupled with improvements in quality and sustainability, developers increasingly see the advantages that make modular construction superior to conventional builds.
The opening of the Coast Oliver Hotel marked the second completed hotel for NRB Modular Solutions.
