Like many areas of North America, the supply of affordable rental housing in Hope, BC was being challenged by escalating prices and the inability of new construction to meet demand.  In fact, CMHC had registered a 0% vacancy rate in the town. Anhart, a network of organizations working primarily in Canada to provide affordable housing solutions, saw an opportunity to provide affordable spaces to those living and working in Hope.

As the need for affordable housing increases, the best way to meet demand is through rapid construction. With public funding central to many affordable housing projects, certainty of schedule and budget along with sustainability and accessibility are critical factors for developers like Anhart.

The end result is a three-storey, multi-family development, including 40 units with kitchenettes and living spaces and a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom spaces. The exterior post and beam details and natural stone facade create a visually interesting building, one with an appearance that is indistinguishable from a traditional site-built counterpart.

The Ryder meets Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) criteria, the first NRB Modular Solutions project to do so, with six accessible units – four studio units, one 2-bedroom unit and one 3-bedroom unit – all located on the building’s ground floor.
