Overview
It seems fitting that a private school emphasizing science, technology, engineering and math would combine onsite and off-site construction to overcome the complex challenges of a tight urban building site that is on both a brownfield and flood plain.
The practicalities of execution are where the story starts, but the building’s legacy is in its good looks. The striking architectural design combines complex angles, exterior glass curtain walls, open concept interiors and an outdoor terrace overhung by cantilevered upper stories—plus views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and New York Bay.
Constructed almost 70 per cent in NRB’s factory, this project demonstrates both the innovation that results from hybrid onsite and off-site construction, and the power of beautiful spaces to inspire learning.
